How much Medicare cover Long Term care?

Posted on Posted in Long Term Care Insurance

Long term care and medicare does not have any formal agreement or code of conduct. If you were receiving private long term care facilities even then you will have your medicare benefits.

A limited and definite amount are paid by medicare services in case of long term care services. If you have to spent 3 days at a hospital for any cause & again have to visit it within the 30 days of the official discharge then medicare covers and pays up to 100 days, till the time you are in need for it.

It also does cover home health care but it’s criterias are strictly checked and covered. It approves (strictly) 10 hours of care in a week (i.e, up to 35 hours per week). For the people or persons who are terminally ill, medicare will also pay for hospice.

It covers and pays for care which is availed at certified places or terms. Therefore they does covers Medicare-certified nursing facilities(skilled) through Medicare-certified home health or hospice agencies.

However, it never pays for CCRC (continuing care retirement community) or ALF (assisted living facility).

Therefore it is very much advisable and wise to look for other options than medicare itself for long term chronic problems or diseases.
